‘To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there’. Kofi Annan
Wild Things began back in 2001 as a project developed by Ian Siddons Heginworth, a drama therapist and leading practitioner, innovator and teacher of environmental arts therapy. He was employed by Devon Partnership Trust as a specialist practitioner to run Wild Things based out of the Russell Clinic at Wonford House Hospital.
Wild Things gave patients the opportunity to participate in a variety of exciting activities across Devon that included things like drumming, storytelling, bush craft, martial arts, animal encounters, climbing, caving, and sailing.
Wild Things moved out into the community for a time under the umbrella of Mind, where it was able to benefit anyone using mental health services more generally.
With Ian retiring in 2015, Wild Things found a new home with the Devon Recovery Learning Community. We are privileged to carry this wonderful project forward by providing learning opportunities for challenging the mind and the body to promote our wellbeing and recovery from mental ill health. We promise an exciting curriculum ahead!
